IELTS Writing in Hindi – Intro, Test Format & Band Descriptors
- Real-world skill: Reports, emails, essays—यही future academics/workplace में लगता है।
2) IELTS Writing Test Format (Academic vs General)
Recommended Split: Task 1 → ~20 min • Task 2 → ~40 min
Module | Task 1 | Task 2 |
---|---|---|
Academic | Graph/Chart/Table, Process या Map का objective overview (≥150 words) | Essay (opinion/discussion/problem-solution etc.) (≥250 words) |
General Training | Letter (formal / semi-formal / informal) (≥150 words) | Essay (same types as Academic) (≥250 words) |
3) IELTS Writing Band Descriptors (4 Pillars)
Examiners चार pillars पर score देते हैं—हर एक ~25% weight. Academic Task 1 में “Task Achievement” और Task 2 में “Task Response” शब्द use होता है।
① Task Achievement / Task Response (TA/TR)
- Task 1 (Academic): Clear overview जरूरी (overall trend/highlights)। Key comparisons और accurate data language चाहिए।
- Task 1 (General): Purpose + bullet points पूरी तरह cover हों; सही tone (formal/informal) और relevant details।
- Task 2 (Essay): Prompt के हर हिस्से का जवाब; स्पष्ट position; ideas explained + supported (examples/explanations)।
② Coherence & Cohesion (CC)
- Logical paragraphing: Intro → (T1: Overview / T2: Thesis) → Body paragraphs → Conclusion.
- Linkers: however, moreover, whereas, in contrast, therefore (overuse मत करो—natural flow रखो)।
- Referencing: this/that/these/those, pronouns—repetition कम करने के लिए।
③ Lexical Resource (LR)
- Topic-appropriate vocabulary: trend verbs (rise, fall, remain stable), academic phrases (it is evident that, a significant proportion)।
- Collocations: heavy traffic, strong evidence, play a vital role—natural लगना चाहिए।
- Paraphrasing: question को word-to-word copy मत करो; synonyms/structure बदलकर लिखो।
④ Grammar Range & Accuracy (GRA)
- Variety: simple + complex sentences का balance; conditionals, relative clauses, passive—जहाँ natural लगे।
- Accuracy: subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, punctuation—छोटी गलतियाँ भी बार-बार हों तो band गिरता है।
- Consistency: tense drift (present vs past) avoid करो; units/spellings UK/US एक जैसे रखो।
4) Warm-Up: 5-Minute Planning Drill (Task 2)
- Prompt पढ़ो और type पहचानो: opinion / discussion / problem-solution / advantages-disadvantages।
- Thesis 1 लाइन में लिखो (your clear position)।
- Body-1 के लिए 2 key points + 1 support/example लिखो।
- Body-2 के लिए 2 key points + 1 support/example लिखो।
- Conclusion में thesis rephrase + 1 takeaway।
IELTS Writing Task 1 (Academic) – Graph, Chart, Table, Map & Process
Task 1 Academic = आपको 150 words में visual data explain करना होता है। Students अक्सर गलती करते हैं: सिर्फ data list करना या overview skip करना। सही approach = Overview + Key trends + Comparisons + Data support.
1) Task 1 में कौन-कौन से Types आते हैं?
- Graphs: Line graph, Bar chart, Pie chart
- Tables: Numbers/percentages compare करना
- Maps: जगहों में बदलाव (before vs after, past vs present)
- Process Diagrams: Manufacturing steps या natural cycle
2) Ideal Structure (4 Paragraphs)
- Intro: Question को paraphrase करो (copy मत करो)।
- Overview: Main trend/highlight बताओ (no data)।
- Body 1: 1–2 key points + data support।
- Body 2: बाकी comparisons + data support।
3) Useful Vocabulary & Phrases
- Increase: rose, climbed, went up, grew, surged
- Decrease: fell, dropped, declined, went down, plummeted
- Stability: remained stable, was constant, plateaued
- Comparison: whereas, while, compared to, in contrast
- Proportion: a small fraction, a significant majority, just under/over

Overview: “Overall, student enrolments increased steadily, with a sharper rise after 2010.”
Body: Group 1 (2000–2010 trends), Group 2 (2010–2020 trends).

Body: Step 1–3 (harvest, dry, roast), Step 4–6 (grind, brew, package).
5) Quick Practice Drill

- Paraphrase intro: “The bar chart compares car ownership levels in households over a thirty-year period.”
- Write overview: “Overall, car ownership increased, with one-car households dominating.”
- Body 1: 1980–1990 trends
- Body 2: 2000–2010 trends

4) Mini-Templates with Examples
Prompt: You recently experienced a delay. Write a letter to the bus company explaining: (1) what happened, (2) how it affected you, (3) what you want them to do.
Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to complain about a severe delay on Route 12 on 5th August. The bus, scheduled for 7:30 a.m., arrived at 8:20 a.m. without any prior notice. Because of this, I missed an important client meeting and incurred a financial loss. Such delays also affect daily commuters who rely on accurate timings. I would appreciate it if you could investigate the cause, ensure timely updates on the app, and consider compensating monthly pass holders for repeated disruptions. Yours faithfully, Ravi Kumar
Prompt: Write to your landlord: (1) describe a maintenance issue, (2) explain why it is urgent, (3) suggest a time for repair.
Dear Mr Sharma, I’m writing regarding a leakage in the kitchen sink that started three days ago. The water drips continuously and has already damaged the wooden cabinet. As mould can develop quickly, I believe it is urgent to fix the pipe. Could you please arrange a plumber this Saturday morning? I’ll be at home to provide access. Kind regards, Nisha Jain
Prompt: Invite your friend to stay with you: (1) why you’re excited, (2) what plans you have, (3) ask about travel dates.
Hi Rohan, Great news—you’re finally visiting my city! I’m so excited to host you. We can explore the old fort, try the new café near the lake, and catch a local music show. Let me know your exact dates and arrival time. I’ll pick you up from the station. Can’t wait! Best, Aman
5) Band 7+ Checklist
- Task Achievement: सभी bullets cover + purpose crystal clear + tone सही।
- Coherence & Cohesion: 4–5 छोटे paragraphs; linkers naturally: however, therefore, in addition.
- Lexical Resource: topic words + polite phrases; repetition से बचो; collocations (file a complaint, arrange a repair)।
- Grammar Range & Accuracy: simple + complex mix, articles/prepositions ठीक, contractions केवल informal में।
6) Common Mistakes (Avoid These)

- Bullets अधूरे छोड़ना / एक bullet miss करना।
- Over-length introduction; main bullets के लिए space कम पड़ जाना।
- Informal में heavy formal phrases; formal में slang/contractions।
- Sign-off गलत: formal में “Best” लिख देना आदि।
7) 5-Minute Planning Drill (Letter)
- Receiver पहचानो → tone fix (formal/semi/informal).
- One-line purpose लिखो (Why writing?).
- Bullets को 1-1 sentence में notes बनाओ (3 mini points).

IELTS Writing Task 2 (Essay) in Hindi – Types, Planning & Band 7+ Strategy
Task 2 आपका high-impact section है (double weight). Myth तोड़ो: “fancy words = high band”। सच: clear position + logical paragraphs + precise vocabulary + clean grammar.
1) Essay Types (IELTS में कौन-कौन से आते हैं?)
Prompt आपसे position मांगता है: agree / disagree / partially (balanced).
दोनों sides explain + अपनी opinion।
समस्याएँ पहचानो + workable solutions दो।
pros vs cons weigh करो; final stance दिखाओ।
दो अलग questions—दोनों का clear जवाब चाहिए।
2) 5-Minute Planning Formula (Band 7+ का Shortcut)
- Type पकड़ो: opinion / discussion / problem-solution / adv–disadv / two-part.
- Thesis 1–2 lines: आपकी position/aim crystal clear।
- Body-1 Points (2): point → explain → example की जगह बना लो।
- Body-2 Points (2): दूसरा angle, contrast/solution/consistency दिखाओ।
- Conclusion cue: thesis rephrase + one-line takeaway/implication.
3) Intros & Conclusions (Fast Templates)
“It is often argued that topic. I agree/disagree with this view because (Reason 1) and (Reason 2).”
“While some believe that view A, others claim that view B. This essay examines both sides and argues that …”
“In conclusion, although counterpoint exists, the evidence suggests that your position. Therefore, policy/action is recommended.”
4) Body Paragraph Blueprint (PEEL in Action)
- Topic sentence: आपका मुख्य point।

- Example/Evidence: छोटा real-world या hypothetical।
- Link: अगले point की तरफ smooth bridge।
5) Linking Words – Smart Cohesion

- LR (Lexical Resource): topic vocabulary + collocations (play a vital role, pose a risk); paraphrase smart.
- GRA (Grammar): simple+complex balance; errors rare; punctuation साफ़।
8) Common Mistakes → Quick Fix
- Off-topic examples: हमेशा thesis से connect करो → एक line में link back।
- Over-long intro: 2–3 lines काफी; time body में लगाओ।
- Linker overdose: हर sentence से पहले नहीं—variety और natural flow।
- Word count panic: 260–290 words safe; quality > length।
- Template-voice: memorised lines पहचान में आ जाती हैं—own words बेहतर।
9) Micro Practice (3 Prompts)
- Discussion: “Some argue public transport should be free; others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.”
- Problem–Solution: “Cyberbullying among teenagers is increasing. What problems does it cause, and what measures can be taken?”
- Two-part: “Why do many people change careers nowadays? Is it a positive or negative development?”

- Day 2: Discussion essays (2) → both views + your stance।
- Day 3: Problem–Solution (2) → problems list → practical solutions।
- Day 4: Adv–Disadv (2) → weigh → final stance।
- Day 5: Two-part (2) → अलग questions के अलग clear answers।
